More than Windows

Today's #stitchingsunday takes us back to my second #smallspacesunday post. Today’s visit down Memory Lane illustrates how this great small space stitch can be used in larger spaces as well.

The stitched sample is from the Aviva Floral from a recent embellishment event. I wanted to make the geometric borders interesting yet wanted the eye to go to the flowers. So, I divided the shapes into four with intriguing borders and added Reverse Basketweave to the quadrants. (And my student was very open to all of the above). It was a fun way to break up the individual shapes. The only thing missing from the stitched sample is a single bead in the empty intersection in the middle.

And, before I go, just another reminder that this is one of my favorite glass stitches.

A Note about Diagrams
I use color in diagrams to make them as clear as possible. The primary function of different colored lines is to illustrate a stitch sequence. For example, layering of colors demonstrates you add them in that order. They can also provide ideas on how to integrate additional threads (one line for each color). Or, you can use the same thread for all color lines. That's where I encourage you to use your imagination for the space you are stitching!

Just So Cute

Today's #stitchingsunday stitch is a reminder of a wonderfully reliable small space stitch as well as an adorable stitched version of it.

The stitched sample is from a Rebecca Woods stocking from one of my favorite stitching friends.  It uses Vineyard Silk and Kreinik Metallic Tapestry Braid (#12) on 18-mesh.

So Many Variations, So Little Time

When I originally posted today's stitch more than three years ago, I offered four different choices to fill the open spaces.  Today's #stitchingsunday offers you a fifth idea.  I hope you like it!

The stitched sample is from the same unfinished floral project as this past Wednesday.  (And when I say unfinished, it will never be unfinished.)  It uses Trebizond Silk, Kreinik Metallics Fine Braid (#8), and a size 11 Sundance bead on 18-mesh.

Today's #stitchingsunday is an ever so slight variation on a past post.  Today's version alternates colors and fills the empty spots.  Pretty darn glamorous for a small space stitch!

The stitched sample is a bird wing from a student in a recent embellishment class.  It includes Burmilana and two shades of Petite Silk Lame.  What draws me to the stitch was the subtle directional element, which conveniently matches the angle of the wing.  Two diagrams are included today.  The center diagram reflects the stitched sample and the diagram on the far right is the original diagram from the original post.

She stitched up one of her new ornaments with a very recent #whimsicalwednesday stitch.  So, of course I love the stitch but I'm thrilled she flipped it on its side.  The stitched sample uses two plies of Soie D'Alger and a Sundance bead.

#stitchingsunday

Welcome back to another episode of #stitchingsunday.  This recently added Sunday theme* highlights stitches from blog posts in current stitching projects.

Today's #stitchingsunday uses a variation of the Double V Stitch I originally shared with you last April.  I love the use of a Smyrna Cross instead of the Upright Cross. The stitcher used the stitch on a sweet Christmas stocking for her grandson.

#stitchingsunday

Welcome back to another episode of #stitchingsunday.  This recently added Sunday theme* highlights stitches from blog posts in current stitching projects.

I always enjoy hearing when a reader shares one of my stitches was perfect for their project. What's more fun is to see how it is used.  Today's stitch example uses the Darning with Backstitch and comes from Amy Poore.  What is even better is that Amy used it for a background and on the vertical axis, neither of which I mentioned as possibilities in the original post.  And I absolutely love it.

Today's version provides more coverage with Perle Cotton and Flair.  The horizontal columns would lend themselves to wallpaper, chimneys, fireplace mantles, tree trunks, pants...anything tall and/or narrow.

Another #stitchingsunday

Welcome back to another episode of #stitchingsunday.  This recently added Sunday theme* highlights stitches from blog posts in current stitching projects.

I decided to put my money where my mouth was regarding the recent post about the Oblique Tied Diamonds.  The original version was large and in charge.  As mentioned in the earlier post, I wanted to try it as a house.

Today's version is much more subtle, as it uses Splendor and Elegance for the cross and the stitch tying it down (gray lines and aqua lines, respectively).  A single vertical stitch with Kreinik Metallics Fine Braid (#8) replaces the bead.  In the sample above, it's the front of a house.  I think it would also make a fantastic roof.

#stitchingsunday

Welcome to our newest blog theme, #stitchingsunday.  #stitchingsunday is an addition to the existing rotation of #whimsicalwednesday and #smallspacesunday.  This new theme will highlight stitches from blog posts in current stitching projects.

Today's inaugural #stitchingsunday is one of my go-to stitches, a weave stitch.  The original post featured a slightly more glamorous version that included a matte and metallic thread combo.

Today's version aligns with the original stitch diagram but with a much more subtle application.  I used two plies of Soie D'Alger on 18-mesh for a very light look and feel on a background behind some very glamorous objects.  I wanted the objects to pop and not clash with the background.  Also, truth be told, I didn't want to invest the time in doing the background in plain needlepoint, which was a very viable (and good looking) option.
